About Us

Who We Are

Shalom Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekaneyesus is a Christ-centered community that gathers for worship, prayer, teaching, and fellowship.

Founded on October 31, 2012 by Rev. Dr. Mitiku Zeleke, our church began as a response to the growing need for an Ethiopian church community in the Alexandria, Virginia area.

Our Values

Commitment to Christ

We mold individuals committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, confident in Christ, caring for others, and trusting in the Lord as they grow into faithful leaders.

Prayer, Scripture, and Grace

We strive for devoted prayer lives and regular Bible study, guided by the Holy Spirit. Our foundation rests on Scripture alone, faith alone, and grace alone, loving God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and practicing the Golden Rule (Deut. 6:4–6; Matt. 7:12).

Fellowship and Service

We strengthen fellowship and brotherly love, living as one family of God. With God’s love as our mark of discipleship, we serve one another and use our gifts to build up the body of Christ.

Worship & Weekly Gatherings

Join us every Sunday for on-site worship and rich fellowship. Services commence at 12:30 PM and include Bible Study, Youth Service, and Children’s Service.

Shalom Ethiopian Church Mission and Purpose

We exist to glorify God by worshiping Him, teaching His Word, and living out the Great Commission, equipping believers to grow in faith, share Christ’s love, and serve their communities with grace.

Our Mission Statement

In obedience to the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel to the whole world and teaching the Lord's commands so that the believers will be equipped to do the same in reaching others with the love of Christ in order to disciple them.
Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 2 Timothy 2:1-2

Our Purpose

We come together as a family of God (congregation) to worship, praise, and glorify the living God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God and three persons) for who He is, what He has done, and is doing and will do in the future. We learn His word humbly and commit ourselves to live out the truth by His grace. Then we go out to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ in order to bring them to fellowship with His body, the church. (Acts 4:32-35, 1 John 1:1-7, Acts 2:42-46)

International Ministry

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~~ Matthew 28:19-20
